Acne Curing Lifestyle Changes

Monday, December 17th, 2007

div class=”article_text”>These changes aren’t as difficult as it sounds, if you are really serious about getting rid of your acne. These will address the symptoms and some of the causes.

Clean pillowcases - you rub the sides of your face on your pillowcases all night long. This actually helps get rid of the dead cells that clog your pores. If you don’t change pillowcases daily you end up embedding the dead cells you rubbed off last night into your pores, clogging them and causing more acne. You can also spread bacteria containing pus that may have leaked out overnight, setting yourself up for another outbreak.

Go out and buy 7 cheap white pillowcases - use a fresh one every night and wash them weekly. If you can’t afford 7 pillowcases, wash the ones you use frequently.

Washcloths - same as the pillowcases. Washcloths are a great way to exfoliate your skin. Use a fresh one daily.

Bath and hand towels - same as wash cloths; you rub off dead skin cells and loosened blackheads into these when you dry your face on them. Use a new one daily.

Undershirts - the same as pillow cases if you have acne on your chest or back. Wear a clean one daily.

Shampoo - you may have to experiment with this one. I found out that a popular shampoo actually caused me facial acne. It was an allergic reaction to the chemicals in the shampoo.

Facial soap. This is like the shampoo. You have to try different ones and see the results based on your skin reaction to them. Stay away from the oily ones and the ones that dry your face too much.

Laundry soap - again you may have to try different ones. I had one that made my chest and back very dry and shortly acne appeared.

Makeup- stay away from the oil based ones and be sparing with the makeup you do use. Usually if the makeup has Jojoba oil it should be all right - you just have to try it and see.

Hair gel and styling products - minimize contact with your face and wash at the hairline after using one of these products. They are full of chemicals that make your skin acne friendly.

Toothpaste - you have to watch this one. I tried one of those whitening ones and had acne on my lips and chin for a month. After I changed toothpaste the breakouts stopped. It had to be some weird reaction. My brother uses the same toothpaste and has no problems.

Acne diary. Keep one, write down everything you eat, wash with, put on your face (perfume, makeup, aftershave, sunscreen, etc.) and the state of your acne daily. It may be depressing at first, but you will begin to see a pattern after a while. You eat something and 3 or 4 days later you have an acne breakout. You change makeup and trigger acne. The diary is a worthwhile endeavor.

10 Tips for Healthy Glowing Skin

Monday, December 10th, 2007

By Dawn Hewett

For most women, part of the morning and evening routines involve a skincare regimen of applying creams, moisturizers, tonics, lotions, and the like. Why do women put themselves through this? They do it primarily to combat the signs of aging, and to maintain youthful looks and beautiful skin! It is a safe bet, however, that most women haven’t put much thought into what is in the products that they are using.

Some women probably do not realize that what they are putting on their skin may actually be undermining what they are trying to prevent to begin with. In fact the average woman puts twelve products on her skin daily, most of which contain harmful chemical preservatives.

Dr. Myron Wentz, founder and chairperson of USANA Health Sciences, has this to say about beauty in the company magazine’s June/July 2005 issue: “Some say that beauty is only skin deep. Nonsense! I believe that true beauty is a reflection of true health, and true health begins deep inside each and every cell in the body.

But true health and true beauty have an outer component, which is why we require protection from environmental insults such as solar radiation, pollutants in our environment and the drying effects of air. . . The fact is you simply cannot contain a healthy body if your skin isn’t healthy. And your skin can’t be healthy if you are subjecting it to toxic substances that are ultimately absorbed into your body.”

So, what can women do? How can they combat environmental pollutants, the affect of solar radiation, and the drying effects of air? How can they be sure they are using the very best products on their skin so they can be healthy inside and out? Here are 10 tips to assist in this process:

1. Be very aware of what is in skincare products. Use products that are all natural as much as possible.

2. Look for products that contain Dermal Surface Renewal Technology. DSR smoothes away existing signs of aging such as laugh lines, crows feet, and dullness.

3. Use products that have regenisomes. Regenisomes penetrate the skin to speed cell renewal after sun exposure. They also use the light of photosomes to undo sun damage, and have ultrasomes to renew skin while sleeping.

4. Find products with Proteo-C and Proflavonol-T. These two vitamins protect the skin from premature aging caused by the sun, pollution, and other environmental factors. They also provide advanced nutrition to the skin to keep it appearing smooth and firm.

5. If possible, use products that are paraben free. Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives that are widely used in personal care products such as shampoos, conditioners, hair styling products, make-up, facial masks, skin lotions and creams, and deodorants.
They also are typically ingredients in baby lotions, shampoos, and other personal care products for infants and children. In addition, they are in many foods and pharmaceutical products. Researchers are beginning to find these in benign and malignant human breast tumors. While some studies have challenged their toxicity in many products and question their long term affect on humans, using products that are paraben free can eliminate the risk of exposure to this harmful chemical.

6. Try to use your own homemade beauty recipes in between your regular regimen. You can use ingredients you currently have in your kitchen for great effective facial masks, shiny hair and healthy nails and cuticles and so much more. Many homemade remedies that work even better than most of the over priced products on the market today.

7. Drink plenty of water! Water hydrates skin and hair as well as flushes toxins out of the body.

8. Exercise every day. I highly recommend some form of cardiovascular exercise at least 3 times per week, in addition to Yoga and Pilates on the days in between. This will increase circulation throughout your body. You will be very happy on how your skin responds to this change. If you have varicose veins you will even notice that they are less visible because these changes. If you are just starting out, walking and/or riding a bike is excellent exercise.

9. Limit stress or learn to manage it effectively. Stress is harmful both emotionally and physically. Yoga is a great way to ease stress. Find that stress reliever activity that works best and use it on a daily basis!

10. Finally, Stay Active! Walk your dog daily and/or play with your kids. Eat lots of fruit (red and blue in color) and vegetables (green and orange in color). Try to get all your vitamins from the food that you eat, in addition to your daily vitamin regimen.

Follow the above 10 tips to Achieve Beautiful Skin and True Health.

Powerful Ways To Slow Down Skin Aging

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

By Sharon A Bell

Beauty is not all about having a slender body or proper posture. For a large part, looking your best involves having healthy glowing skin. The beauty of your skin is not skin deep. Rather, it is an important component of your beauty regimen.

But age can never be avoided. And as it take its toll on your skin, you wonder if there will ever be a way to keep your skin healthy and beautiful. Well, in reality, there is nothing much you can do to reverse the skin damage caused by aging; one way or another, your skin will reflect your age. When you are seventy, you can not expect to have the skin when you were sixteen. So unless you decide to have a cosmetic surgery or chemical-based skin treatment, the best you can do is to delay skin aging and then age gracefully. The following says how, so pay attention.

Don’t Take Moisturizers For Granted

Moisturizers play an important role in nourishing your skin. In fact, moisturizers have been regarded by many as an all around skin care maintenance application. A bottle of ordinary moisturizer contains not only moisturizing elements, but also substances that prevent the moisture of your skin from easily evaporating or rubbing off. Some moisturizers even help your skin tissues to produce more moisture that can sustain the health of your skin more naturally.

Skin experts say that if you can not afford to buy a full line of skin care products, then at least invest on one moisturizer and your skin will still be healthy, young-looking and rejuvenated. Keep in mind that oil essences just won’t do to give your skin the moisture it needs; simply put, moisture is not the same with being oily. Also remember that choosing the right moisturizer for you depends on your unique skin type; so know under which type you belong before buying a moisturizer.

Don’t Forget The Sunscreen

Plastic surgeons and expensive creams that can help you retain a youthful look must be reserved for later. Consider them as the last resort in your fight against aging. Before you even set your eyes on the Yellow Pages or the beauty catalogs, why not try putting on some sunscreen?

Most of the skin problems that are normally tied to the aging process can be traced to the ultraviolet rays from the sun. Therefore, by using sunscreen every day you go outdoors, you can mitigate the effects of sun damage on your skin. The absence of sunscreen on your skin can cause considerable damage and can even alter the way how your skin feels. So, if you do not want to experience having a turkey neck and crow’s feet spreading from the sides of your eyes, try to apply sunscreen.

Don’t Cleanse Your Skin With Just Anything

Your skin, especially the part on your face, is not as thick as your shirt or mattress. You simply can not use ordinary soap and water for your skin. The skin on your face is not even as tough as the skin on your palms. So, if you are one of those people who think ordinary soap will do to strip away deep dirt from your skin, you might find your skin dry and prone to breakouts.

Ordinary soap and water can sap out all the natural moisturizers and other nutrients needed by your skin. If you want that radiating skin for years to come, be choosy with what you use when cleaning your face and body.

To be able to provide good nourishment for your skin and fight the effects of aging, always look for products that are rich in natural moisturizers. You can also try Rejuvinol in rehydrating your skin. Go to www.Rejuvinol.com for more information about stopping the effects of aging on your skin.

Do you know the dangers of Botox?

Friday, July 6th, 2007

By Caroline Sanders

Botox is the brand name for a potent toxin known as Botulinum Toxin. This toxin is a neurotoxin which means that it acts on the nerve cells also known as neurons. This toxin attaches itself to the nerves that control muscle movements and prevents it from sending a signal to the muscle. This is what prevents the muscle from movements or contracting. What most people don’t realize is that the bacteria that causes severe food poisoning, temporary paralysis and breathing problems in humans is the same that is used to make Botox - Clostridium botulinum.

Most people know that Botox is used as a cosmetic treatment option for frown lines, wrinkles etc. What people don’t realize is that Botox has a wide array of uses ranging from involuntary muscle spasms, excessive sweating to sometimes even problem headaches like migraine.

Being such a potent toxin, there are dangers to using this product which consumers should be aware of. One of the dangers is that the injections are given by inexperienced technicians which could cause complications such as getting the toxin into the bloodstream. Another risk is the body getting used to the Botulinum toxin and generating antibodies to it due to repeated use. Therefore, it is important to space out treatments.

Botox is widely used for cosmetic purposes, and if the patient does not like the look the only thing that they can do is wait till the effects wear off. This could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Fortunately, the effects are not permanent, unfortunately, they are not easily reversible before they wear off.

Consumers must also be wary of getting treatments from unlicensed facilities. There have been a few cases of patients getting violently ill after receiving treatment with Botulinum not suitable for human use. These patients were given antidotes and still had to spend several weeks in the hospital. Stricter controls are needed on this product to make it safe for consumers. In the meantime, consumers should use caution and do a great deal of research before making any decision to use the product.

Sunscreens - Stop Aging Skin With Sunscreens - 2

Friday, July 6th, 2007

By CD Mohatta

In the first part, we learned about the types of sunscreens available. Let us look at the care we should take while using sunscreens.

Sunscreen Care-

Sunscreens are very good for protecting us from the harmful sun rays. But one must always know everything possible about the product before using it. A little care goes a long way.

Children:

Keep infants under 6 months of age out of the sun. Don’t use sunscreen on infants under 6 months of age because of increased chance of side effects. Children 6 months of age and older should be kept out of the sun or have limited exposure to the sun. Use sunscreen agents with a SPF of at least 15 for children. Prefer lotion sunscreens for use in children. Avoid alcohol-based sunscreen products for children as they can cause irritation.

Other Adults:

For elders who spend little time in sun and use sunscreen products, may develop vitamin D deficiency (which may result in bone disease and fracture), although this has not been proven. Get enough vitamin D. Eat food rich in vitamin D, (such as fortified milk or fatty fish.) Ask your Doctor about taking vitamin D supplements.

Other Medicines:

Please inform your Doctor, if you are using any prescription or nonprescription (over the counter) medicine or other product that is applied to the same area of the skin.

Other Medical Problems:

Some other medical problems may affect the use of sunscreen agents. Please always inform your Doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially: Skin conditions or diseases, especially those caused or worsened by exposure to light.

Sunscreens - Stop Aging Skin With Sunscreens - 1

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

By CD Mohatta

Sunscreens are one of the best defenses against sun damage. These agents either neutralize the UV radiation or reflect it. Most of the cosmetics now contain added sunscreen agents but plain sunscreen formulations still remain the safest for use. Find out more about SPF factor, what are sunscreens, how to use them, side effects.

Let us begin with what sunscreens are-

Sunscreen Types-

Sunscreen is a general term. A sunscreen simply means any product, which saves us from UV radiation, if we apply it on our body. While many people often mix the terminology of sunscreen and sun block, there really is a technical difference between the two. A true sunscreen is a chemical agent that denatures the light, making the wavelengths incapable of causing damage. Sun blocks act as a physical wall to prevent sunlight from reaching the skin.

Chemical Screens

These are aromatic compounds, which absorb photons of light energy and transform high energy UV radiation into harmless long wave radiation. This avoids or minimizes sun damage. Commonly used chemical sunscreens are PABA (Para Amino Benzoic Acid), Anthranilates, Benzophenones, Camphor derivatives, Cinnamates, Dibenzoylmethanes and Salicylates.

Chemical Sunscreens

Physical Blocks-

These blocks reflect and scatter the sunlight and decrease the dermal penetration of UV rays. Examples are-. Titanium dioxide, Magnesium oxide, Zinc oxide, Red petrolatum, Kaolin, etc.

Physical Sunscreens

Mixtures-

Many sunscreen products contain a mixture of these chemical and physical properties. If you have contact dermatitis, allergies, eczema or sensitive skin, you should prefer to use the true physical blockers.

Skin Cancer Awareness

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Skin Cancer is one of the most common cancers. Approximately one in six people will develop skin cancer. Medical experts unanimously agree that overexposure to sunlight is the main culprit. Other factors include sunburn with blistering especially during childhood, skin creams that contain tar if used over a prolonged period, repeated X-rays, exposure to coal and arsenic, radiation, chemotherapy and family history. Freckles with fair skin that doesn’t tan very easily can also put one at risk.

Most skin cancers grow slowly. It is imperative you inspect your body on a regular basis for anything unusual. Stand in front of a full length mirror and with a hand held mirror check out every inch of your skin. Have someone check the top of your head as well. You should know your body in detail, so that when something different rears its ugly head, you notice it immediately!

Watch for any unusual spots. Look for lesions, moles or spots that are asymmetrical in shape. Observe for any colored spot that grows bigger or develops an uneven color or irregular, ragged edge. Look for any nodules or patches that are red and scaly, as this can be a squamous cell carcinoma which can metastasize (spread). Other symptoms to look for are changes in the surface of a mole. If you notice the mole is raised above the skin and has a rough surface, is scaly, oozing, bleeding or there is development of bumps on any mole, seek medical attention. In other words anything that develops that wasn’t on your body before should be investigated by your physician.

Skin cancer has a high cure rate if caught early. Excision of the lesion is the most common treatment. Self examination is the key to early detection with a regular visit to your doctor for check ups.

The best methods to avoid skin cancer are to avoid the sun, especially during the hottest part of the day from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wear a sunscreen if you are out doors with an SPF of at least 15 or more, applied thirty minutes before going into the sun. Put the sunscreen everywhere the suns rays will hit you. Don’t forget your ears and men don’t forget any bald areas on top of your head. If you have to be out in the sun, use a wide brimmed hat or cap. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun. Choose sunglasses that protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Sunglasses can help prevent cataracts as well. Wear long sleeve shirts and pants if it is not sweltering hot, to better protect your body. Don’t use tanning salons as they can damage your skin just like the sun.

Of course there is the controversy that you need some sun in order NOT to be vitamin B deficient. Ask your doctor to prescribe a good vitamin B supplement. Your doctor can advise the proper dose to take. I know it is hard at times to completely avoid the sun. A few minutes of sun occasionally with a good sun screen, should not be too harmful, as long as you watch the time of day and check your body on a regular basis. Also too much sun can contribute to wrinkles. Avoidance is best, but not always possible. Hence, just be very careful and check, check, check your body regularly (monthly if possible). Go to your doctor immediately when you notice any irregularities. Keep healthy!

Toxic Ingredients in Cosmetics and Skin Care Products

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

Have you ever examined the ingredients listed on the labels of your cosmetics or other skin care products? Do you know what those ingredients are?

What you may not realize is that many of the skin care products and cosmetics you are buying contain ingredients that are not only harmful to your skin, but also to your long term health. Many of these ingredients are known carcinogens (cancer-causing substances) and are used by the cosmetic industry simply because they are cheap!

Harmful Ingredients Commonly Found in Skin Care Products and Cosmetics
The following are just some of the synthetic chemicals that have been identified by scientific studies to be harmful to our health.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS)
Often described as being “derived from coconut” to disguise their toxic nature, these chemicals are commonly used in shampoos, toothpaste, foaming facial and body cleansers and bubble bath. SLS and ALS can cause severe skin irritation, and are easily absorbed into the body, building up in the brain, heart, lungs and liver, leading to potential long term health problems. SLS and ALS may also cause cataracts, and prevent children’s eyes from developing properly.

Paraben Preservatives
Parabens are widely used in cosmetics, deodorants, skin care and baby products to prolong their shelf life. They are known to be highly toxic and have caused rashes and allergic reactions. Recent scientific studies in the UK found a strong link between the use of parabens and the increasing rate of breast cancer in women. Researchers found a high concentration of parabens in 90% of breast tumors tested.

Propylene Glycol
Found in many beauty creams, cosmetics and cleansers, Propylene Glycol can cause skin rashes and contact dermatitis, and has been shown to cause damage to the kidneys and liver.

Isopropyl Alcohol
Alcohol is used as a solvent in many skin care products. It causes skin irritation and strips the skin of its natural acid mantle, promoting the growth of bacteria, moulds and viruses. It may also cause premature ageing of skin.

DEA (Diethanolamine), TEA (Triethanolamine) and MEA (Monoethanolamine)
These substances are harsh solvents and detergents that are used in cosmetics and face and body creams as an emollient. They can cause allergic reactions, and long term use of DEA-based products (such as Cocamide DEA) have been linked to an increase in the incidence of liver and kidney cancer.

Aluminum
A common ingredient in antiperspirants, aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Mineral Oil
Derived from petroleum (crude oil), mineral oil is commonly found as a main ingredient of face and body creams and cosmetics. Baby oil is 100% mineral oil! It coats the skin like a plastic film, clogging pores and stopping the skin from eliminating toxins, which can lead to acne and other skin disorders. Other petroleum based ingredients include paraffin wax, paraffin oil and petrolatum.

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)
Used as a thickener in skin care products and cosmetics, PEGs interfere with the skin’s natural moisture balance, causing an increase in ageing and leaving the skin vulnerable to bacteria.

Talc
Talc is a soft mineral used in talcum powders and cosmetic powders. Scientific studies have shown that routine application of talcum powder to the genital area is linked with a three-to-fourfold increase in the development of ovarian cancer. Inhaling cosmetic powders containing talc may also be harmful to long term health.

How To Avoid These Toxins
Examine the labels of your cosmetics and skin care products carefully, and learn to recognize ingredients that are harmful to your skin and to your health. Many web sites have lists of potentially harmful ingredients in addition to those shown above (e.g. Environmental Working Group).

Don’t be fooled by the words ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ on the front of the label. Many products contain at least one or two natural or organic ingredients, but they may also contain harmful synthetic chemicals as well.

Whenever possible, choose products with 100% natural ingredients such as essential oils and herbs. Your skin will love you for it!

Dry SKin Relief - What helps?

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

by Jerrick

Do you have very dry skin which develops bleeding cracks in winter? Have you have tried various remedies including alternative medicine but to no avail?

Here some other proven dry skin relief method that you will find useful in order to eradicate that dry skin problem.

You might add 1000 mg of MSM a day to your diet to improve the strength and flexibility of your skin. It is an organic sulfur supplement that is usually stocked with vitamins and herbal supplements. It also improves healing speed and seems to be erasing all my old scars (but this takes several months to a year).

Something else that is easy and might help would be to mix up a bit of salt solution to use after washing, to replace the salts your skin looses with washing. These salts attract moisture from the air and keep your skin moister.

You could also buy that oatmeal powder stuff which comes with the oat oil. You throw your oatmeal powder in the tub, throw in some oil, jump in, and you become like a giant bowl of oatmeal, except without the synthetic sugar additives. It doesn’t smell great but it actually helps with dry skin.

After ruling out a medical condition, the best thing I’ve ever found for dry, itchy, flaky skin is an Zenmed, Autopalm and Skin E dip, all-natural remedies that many people have found extemely useful to counteract dry skin problems. See our reviews at http://www.dry-skin-care-guide.com/product-reviews.html.html

How to Make Cellulite Remove itself From Your Skin

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

by Craig Weaver

Cellulite is a substance that a good many people fear even though they have little reason too. You should note that you can get rid of cellulite and you can even make cellulite remove itself from the inside of your skin layer. Now this is not an overnight event mind you but there is hope that it will happen with in a decent amount of time to say the least. There is no hard rule saying how long it will take for the cellulite to be gone from your body but if you use one of the many cellulite therapy options you have the opportunity to make sure that you can live without this problem if you are willing to dedicate yourself to it. This is something that will take a fair amount of dedication on your part but there is nothing that will be all that complicate once you get into it. The best cellulite therapy option is too be sure and get yourself a good cellulite cream and then take on some intense diet and exercise. This is the proven method for getting rid of cellulite and making sure that you are getting the appearance on your body that you want so much. Remember there is no cream or pill that is meant to work alone to make cellulite remove itself from your inner skin layer but when used in conjunction with exercise and diet they are highly effective. This has all been proven and a good many people are now living a life without the unsightly cellulite that they once had. You too can live like this as long as you do not let go of the goal that you set.

To make cellulite remove itself from your inner skin layer you must be persistent. Once you begin to see the results that you want you can not let up. This is the biggest mistake that you can make when you are trying to fight cellulite. If you stop with the exercises and diet once you get to where you want to be then you are doing nothing more than inviting the body to build it all back up again. Sure, you do not have to be on such an intense diet but you still should watch the intake of fat into your body.
