The Basics of Vitamin B-12

Vitamin B-12 is one of the B-Complex vitamins and is also known as Cobalamin. It is important for the normal functioning of the brain, nervous system and for the formation of red blood cells. Vitamin B-12 helps keep the red blood cells healthy which helps prevent heart disease and helps keep the immune system functioning at its maximum level. It is involved in the metabolism of every cell of the body, especially affecting the DNA synthesis and regulation.

Vitamin B-12 is also essential in fatty acid synthesis and energy production or the process that converts the carbohydrates, fats and proteins from food into energy. This vitamin is also important in maintaining the nervous system. All nerves are surrounded by a fatty protective covering made up of a complex protein called myelin.

If a deficiency occurs, DNA production is disrupted and abnormal cells are produced. This results in anaemia. Symptoms of anaemia include excessive tiredness, breathlessness, listlessness, pallor, and poor resistance to infection. Other symptoms might include a smooth, sore tongue and menstrual disorders. Prolonged deficiency can lead to nerve degeneration and irreversible neurological damage.

When a deficiency occurs, it’s most commonly linked to a failure to effectively absorb the vitamin from the intestine rather than a dietary deficiency. Vitamin B-12 is bound to the protein in food. Hydrochloric acid in the stomach releases Vitamin B-12 from proteins in foods during digestion.

Absorption of Vitamin B-12 requires the secretion from the cells lining the stomach of a glycoprotein, known as intrinsic factor. The intrinsic factor complex is then absorbed in the small intestine in the presence of calcium. Certain people are unable to produce intrinsic factor and the subsequent anaemia is treated with injections of Vitamin B-12.

The old Recommended Daily Amounts (RDA’s) have been replaced by the term Reference Nutrient intake (RNI). The RNI is the amount of nutrient which is enough for at least 97% of the population.

- 7 to 12 months 0.4 micrograms
- 1 to 3 yrs 0.5 micrograms
- 4 to 6 yrs 0.8 micrograms
- 7 to 10 yrs 1.0 micrograms
- 11 to 14 yrs 1.2 micrograms
- 15 + yrs 1.5 micrograms
- Breast feeding women 2.0 micrograms

The vitamin has very low toxicity and exceeding the RNI is not considered to be dangerous.

The only verified unfortified sources of Vitamin B-12 are meat, dairy products and eggs. There has been plenty of research into possible plant food sources like soya products, seaweeds and algae, but analysis found no significant Vitamin B-12.

Strict vegetarians or vegans are likely to require supplements if they do not eat any animal products. Some sources of Vitamin B-12 for vegetarians are dairy products, free-range eggs, milk, vegetarian cheddar cheese, hard boiled eggs. Many vegan foods are actually supplemented with Vitamin B-12. DHEA Side Effects - Nature and Benefits of DHEA

I consider that a substantial amount of information on DHEA side effects and the benefits of DHEA makes it unnecessary to add more information. However, I consider that it is necessary to elaborate on a topic that I have not seen covered. As a result, most people is not aware of it.

It appears to me that nobody thinks of nature when supplementing with beneficial hormones like DHEA and hGH. Nature is much more elaborated than we can possibly fathom. Nature created a very large puzzle. Supplementing is just a piece of that puzzle. Supplementing may not do what we want if other pieces of the puzzle are not present. Our body’s overall health condition and the state of organs and systems also are pieces of the puzzle. Each one must be in a condition receptive to youthful levels of DHEA and hGH.

We may see our body as a Symphonic Orchestra with large number of instruments. Music sounds very good when all instruments perform as intended. However, should some instruments degrade and play music in a way not intended or they otherwise performs poorly, music progressively sounds worst.

Similarly, it is not realistic to believe that the simplistic act of raising the levels of hormones will give us the intended results if some organs and systems “play their music” poorly. We must be wise enough to ask ourselves “What is it that nature wants”. Read that again: “What is it that nature wants”. The answer to that question lead us to gain the benefits of DHEA, and to prevent DHEA side effects.

I will now mention a list of conditions. It is not intended to be complete. Still, it should permit to draw a conclusion.

* Our intestines are not evacuated often enough.

* The beneficial Friendly Bacteria and fiber needed in our intestines are absent in meaningful quantities for extended periods of time.

* Enough water to clean up by-products in cells and elsewhere in our body as a result of daily activities ~as well as to hydrate our organs~ is not provided.

* Nutrients is a word that we heard of in high school but we know nothing about their performance and healthful quantities to take. Additionally, there is a huge number of nutrients besides Vitamins & Minerals which nature created for a reason.

* Quality sleep and long enough sleep is seldom achieved.

* Our life is plagued with preoccupations and aggravations.

* A hectic life style is our “normal” way of going through life as we proudly tell others how incredibly busy we are.

* We correctly exercise for long enough only seldomly.

* We eat based on practicality rather than food containing a healthful and varied nutrients as we tell others that we are so busy that we are not home to cook healthy food.

What you just read should suffice to conclude that these detrimental conditions may not allow the benefits of DHEA and promote DHEA side effects. I assume that we are clever enough not to proudly swim in a pool of ignorance in the believe that we can supplement and gain benefits without side effects if conditions like the ones above are common in our bodies for extended periods of time, our overall health is not strong, and our Immune System is weak as a result of it all.

I concluded that it is imperative to realize that nature mandates for health condition to exist before we rightfully expect to gain the benefits of DHEA without DHEA side effects. It is your turn to draw conclusions.

The Basics of Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a system of medicinal treatment founded by Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician. He published a paper in 1796 in which he promulgated his principle that “likes are cured by likes”. This principle is known as “Law of Similars”. Hahnemann claimed that quinine, a medicine widely used for successful treatment of malaria, produced symptoms of malaria in a healthy person. The patients of malaria were treated with a medicine which created the same symptoms as those created by the disease. The observations with quinine and other medicines led Hahnemann to his “Law of Similars”.

Four years later Hahnemann advanced his doctrine of “potentization of dynamization” which stated that medicines in small doses effectively exerted their curative power.

The homeopathic system of treatment is based on these two principles - Law of Similars and Potentization.

Potentization is a process by which medicine is diluted in precise steps and subjected to “succussion” (a vigorous shaking action). This process brings about an energetic change that gives medicines a deeper curative effect. Repeated dilution ensures that the medicine has no toxic effect. This allows homeopathic use of many substances which would be unsafe under normal conditions.

Traditionally homeopathic treatment is done to cure the disorders, not just the symptoms. Any physical and emotional disorder produces certain symptoms in the body. In many cases different ailments produce similar symptoms. As a part of the treatment the medicines are prescribed to eliminate the causes of disease or discomfort. If two patients have similar problems, they may still require different medicines depending upon their habits and many other factors. Medicines of higher potency are generally given only after the cause of the disease is established.

Homeopathy is relatively young - just over 200 years old. New medicines and treatments are constantly being evolved and documented. Such research studies are called “provings”. As a result of these research studies, Homeopathy is used in a wide variety of health conditions.

Homeopathic medicines do not work strictly by chemical action. At higher potency the medicine is diluted so much that concentration of original medicine reduces to insignificant level. Yet the medicines not only work, they are more effective at higher potency. “Potentization” process brings energetic change in the medicine. In turn the medicine stimulates the body’s defense mechanism to fight the cause of disorder. This approach produces more stable cure as compared to treatment with drugs. Direct chemical action of the drugs often produces harmful side effects. Homeopathic medicines on the other hand have no or little side effects. They are safe and non-toxic.

Two centuries of existence has firmly established homeopathy. It is accepted form of treatment in many parts of the world. However, the theory of homeopathy is inconsistent with known laws of science; therefore the critics often dismiss it as pseudoscience and quackery.

Homeopathy has thrived on the basis of its results. Its medicines have relatively slow but lasting effects. It is not trusted to meet emergency situations, but it is extremely useful in many other situations.
