Let’s take a look at Cholestasys, a natural cholesterol-lowering
supplement which claims to lower cholesterol.

First, what in the world is elevated cholesterol anyway?
Elevated cholesterol is a fairly common condition which occurs
when there is too much cholesterol (a fat-like substance) in
your blood which then builds up in the arteries. This can cause
hardening of the arteries which can in turn cause the arteries
themselves to become narrow. This can slow down, restrict, or
block the flow of blood to the heart, and the end result of this
can be chest pain, heart disease, or even a heart attack. Heart
disease is reported to be the number one killer of men and women
in the US.

Let’s break it down a little bit further in that total
cholesterol is made up of LDL (bad cholesterol), HDL (good
cholesterol), and triglycerides (another form of fat in the
blood).

What it all means in terms of numbers if you are monitoring your
total cholesterol is under 200 is best, 200 to 239 is borderline
high, and 240 and above is considered high.

So, given this information, we know then that high cholesterol
is something we must try to avoid. What can we do about it?
Actually a number of things.

Change your diet. Well, we’ve all heard this one before. This is
a difficult change for most people, but studies have shown a
great benefit in your cholesterol level with a reduction in
saturated fats.

Weight reduction. This will probably happen when you make those
changes to your diet, and it will help lower your LDL.

Physical activity. This can help you lower LDL and lose weight
too. A good amount of exercise to strive for is at least 30
minutes a day.

So where does Cholestasys fit in here? Well, in addition to the
above lifestyle changes you should make, you can also choose to
treat your elevated cholesterol with a Cholesterol-lowering
agent. This is can be a prescription drug or a natural dietary
supplement. If you are concerned enough to be reading and
researching high cholesterol, you are probably a
health-conscious individual and have already discovered the
nasty and harsh side effects of prescription medications such as
the statin class of drugs most often prescribed by doctors for
lowering cholesterol.

So let’s take a look at one of the options available for an
all-natural dietary supplement, Cholestasys.

Cholestasys claims to be a natural cholesterol-lowering
supplement which will maintain and regulate normal healthy
levels of cholesterol with zero negative side effects and no
harmful steroids, fillers, or chemicals.

Let’s take a look at the ingredients:

Goggul, an herbal medicine.

Niacin, a B vitamin said to lower the LDL cholesterol and raise
the HDL cholesterol.

Policosanol, sugar cane extract. Said to help normalize
cholesterol levels.

Cayenne, medicinal and nutritional herb.

Garlic, an herb we are all familiar with, said to reduce
cholesterol.

Given this list of the main ingredients, it appears that the
claims are correct and Cholestasys is, as claimed by its maker,
an all-natural supplement.

How does Cholestasys work? Reportedly by inhibiting cholesterol
absorption, promoting elimination of fat, reducing cholesterol
production, balancing healthy cholesterol, and enhancing LDL
receptor activity.

Does it work? Micronutra indicates those who start on
Cholestasys will experience a noticeable reduction in
cholesterol levels within 1 to 2 weeks. They go further to back
up their claims with a 90-day guarantee.

This review has answered the question of what exactly high
cholesterol is, how it can harm us, and one all-natural option
we can employ to fight this battle. With this information in
mind, Cholestasys would seem to be one very good option for
those looking to reduce their cholesterol with an all-natural
supplement and avoid prescription drugs such as statins.

div class=”article_text”>These changes aren’t as difficult as it sounds, if you are really serious about getting rid of your acne. These will address the symptoms and some of the causes.

Clean pillowcases - you rub the sides of your face on your pillowcases all night long. This actually helps get rid of the dead cells that clog your pores. If you don’t change pillowcases daily you end up embedding the dead cells you rubbed off last night into your pores, clogging them and causing more acne. You can also spread bacteria containing pus that may have leaked out overnight, setting yourself up for another outbreak.

Go out and buy 7 cheap white pillowcases - use a fresh one every night and wash them weekly. If you can’t afford 7 pillowcases, wash the ones you use frequently.

Washcloths - same as the pillowcases. Washcloths are a great way to exfoliate your skin. Use a fresh one daily.

Bath and hand towels - same as wash cloths; you rub off dead skin cells and loosened blackheads into these when you dry your face on them. Use a new one daily.

Undershirts - the same as pillow cases if you have acne on your chest or back. Wear a clean one daily.

Shampoo - you may have to experiment with this one. I found out that a popular shampoo actually caused me facial acne. It was an allergic reaction to the chemicals in the shampoo.

Facial soap. This is like the shampoo. You have to try different ones and see the results based on your skin reaction to them. Stay away from the oily ones and the ones that dry your face too much.

Laundry soap - again you may have to try different ones. I had one that made my chest and back very dry and shortly acne appeared.

Makeup- stay away from the oil based ones and be sparing with the makeup you do use. Usually if the makeup has Jojoba oil it should be all right - you just have to try it and see.

Hair gel and styling products - minimize contact with your face and wash at the hairline after using one of these products. They are full of chemicals that make your skin acne friendly.

Toothpaste - you have to watch this one. I tried one of those whitening ones and had acne on my lips and chin for a month. After I changed toothpaste the breakouts stopped. It had to be some weird reaction. My brother uses the same toothpaste and has no problems.

Acne diary. Keep one, write down everything you eat, wash with, put on your face (perfume, makeup, aftershave, sunscreen, etc.) and the state of your acne daily. It may be depressing at first, but you will begin to see a pattern after a while. You eat something and 3 or 4 days later you have an acne breakout. You change makeup and trigger acne. The diary is a worthwhile endeavor.

With the current information available about the harmful side effects of traditional lower back pain remedies, those who are regularly affected by back pain may wonder what options are left to them. You’ve got to just love all those irksome aches and pins you inevitably acquire as you age. By the time you’re 75, imagine what a blast it will be. Regardless of the standard pangs of aging, you definitely don’t have to lie down and take it. There are ways to remedy these common afflictions. You simply have to know where to start. With the right type of joint, hip, neck, or lower back pain treatment, you can be back to your old self again. Are you ready to take action? Many people are now turning to alternative lower back pain remedies in the hopes of getting some relief from their symptoms without the risks associated with pharmaceutical lower back pain treatment. There are a number of good herbal and/or natural choices, but for those who don’t have the time or inclination to mix and match ingredients until they find the right combination, natural anti-inflammatory combinations can help your body create a more regulated natural pain response to deal with lower back pain in the long term.

There are several ways to address this situation. Since back pain seems to be the most common burden affecting humans as they age, it’s well worth discussing. Probably the most popular upper and lower back pain treatment is accomplished at the local chiropractor. I’m talking about the joint and bone doctors themselves. These professionals know all about aches and pains regarding the human skeleton. And here is a friend of mine who practices as a chiropractor, tells me that many individuals, old and young are searching high and low for an ideal lower back pain treatment. He claims that so many people wake up with back pains. According to him, a lot has to do with your daily posture, the mattress you sleep on and your shoes. Hmm, makes perfect sense to me. Therefore if you can remedy those three issues, then you’ll most likely be better off. Of course some folks suffer from more severe back pains caused by injuries. These may demand a more intense treatment such as surgery.

There are many different exercises and stretches you can do for lower back pain treatment and this one of the most common ailments. It doesn’t matter what age you are back pain can be a problem. Lower back pain treatment can be in the form of exercise and physical therapy or professional treatment as it all depends on the severity of the back problem. And the other one lower back pain treatment that’s certainly growing in popularity is acupuncture. The back is one of the most important areas to keep healthy in order to have the ability to move around without pain. Many people are turning to the magic needles for their backaches and muscular pains. This treatment is also used for a great deal of other dilemmas. It basically comes down to which lower back pain treatment works best for your particular situation. One way to check these out is by hopping online. You can get the scoop on the latest lower back pain treatment, and possibly find out what’s right for you. Stretches is one of the most effective things you can do if you feel a bit strain in your back. By stretching your back and abdomen muscles those muscles will become stronger. When those muscles are strengthened there is less chance of the occurrence of back troubles considering the strength of the muscles to begin with. Lower back pain treatment, in terms of stretching, will also loosen the muscle up making them warm and letting the blood flow throughout the muscle. There are many different types of stretches for lower back pain treatment. You doctor will be able to suggest several that should help you.

You may consider consulting a chiropractor if stretching isn’t working. any times lower back pain can be caused by different parts of the back not being aligned. By consulting a chiropractor they can tell you if everything in your back is how it should be. One of the biggest causes of back problems is your body not being aligned. Lower back pain treatment is a specialty of many chiropractors as there are so many back problems that people have.

If stretching and exercise doesn’t work, the last and final option would be the surgery. Surgery for lower back pain treatment is only contemplated if there are no other option or if the other options do not work. Any type of surgery comes with risks so it’s important to be certain that it’s the only choice that is left. Lower back pain treatment is all about alleviating the discomfort you feel in the back which can be the most uncomfortable and annoying back problem. If stretching and exercising do not work something more drastic such as surgery may be your best option.

And of course, the best way to pinpoint the source of your pain is to visit your doctor for a full checkup. Anyone who has experienced severe or chronic pain knows what a drain it can be on your body both physically and emotionally. Even if you’re a little skeptical at first, it’s worth a try…after all, you might find relief that you never thought possible before.

Hypothalamus Gland In the news lately: “The hypothalamus controls body weight and appetite, but it is not entirely clear how. Sensory inputs, including taste, smell, and gut distension, all tell the hypothalamus if we are hungry, full, or smelling a steak.”

Hypothalamus Gland Info

The hypothalamus is a region of the brain that controls a number of physical functions. It is located in the middle of the base of the brain, and “shortens” the ventral portion of the third ventricle.

The hypothalamus gland regulates body temperature, blood sugar, water balance, fat metabolism, feeding habits, sleep, sexual behavior, emotions, hormone productions, and the autonomic nervous system.

It directs the “fight or flight” response of the autonomic nervous system. Fear or excitement causes signals to travel to the hypothalamus, which triggers a rapid heartbeat, faster breathing, widening of the pupils, and increased blood flow.

The hypothalamus can be regarded as the thermostat controlling the temperature of the body. It initiates shivering and contraction or expansion of blood vessels.

The hypothalamus triggers behaviors such as putting on or removing clothes, turning on the heat, or moving into the shade. It also regulates other glands such as thyroid, pancreas, ovaries etc. This amazing gland takes up less than 1% of the brain.

The hypothalamus is rich in ganglia, nerve fibers, and synaptic connections. It is composed of several sections called nuclei, each of which controls a specific function.

The hypothalamus links the nervous system to the endocrine system via the pituitary gland (hypophysis). The hypothalamus, is located below the thalamus, just above the brain stem. This gland occupies the major portion of the ventral region of the diencephalon. It is found in all mammalian brains. In humans, it is roughly the size of an almond.

The hypothalamus regulates certain metabolic processes and other activities of the Autonomic Nervous System. It synthesizes and secretes neurohormones, often called hypothalamic-releasing hormones, and these in turn stimulate or inhibit the secretion of pituitary hormones.

For most women, part of the morning and evening routines involve a skincare regimen of applying creams, moisturizers, tonics, lotions, and the like. Why do women put themselves through this? They do it primarily to combat the signs of aging, and to maintain youthful looks and beautiful skin! It is a safe bet, however, that most women haven’t put much thought into what is in the products that they are using.

Some women probably do not realize that what they are putting on their skin may actually be undermining what they are trying to prevent to begin with. In fact the average woman puts twelve products on her skin daily, most of which contain harmful chemical preservatives.

Dr. Myron Wentz, founder and chairperson of USANA Health Sciences, has this to say about beauty in the company magazine’s June/July 2005 issue: “Some say that beauty is only skin deep. Nonsense! I believe that true beauty is a reflection of true health, and true health begins deep inside each and every cell in the body.

But true health and true beauty have an outer component, which is why we require protection from environmental insults such as solar radiation, pollutants in our environment and the drying effects of air. . . The fact is you simply cannot contain a healthy body if your skin isn’t healthy. And your skin can’t be healthy if you are subjecting it to toxic substances that are ultimately absorbed into your body.”

So, what can women do? How can they combat environmental pollutants, the affect of solar radiation, and the drying effects of air? How can they be sure they are using the very best products on their skin so they can be healthy inside and out? Here are 10 tips to assist in this process:

1. Be very aware of what is in skincare products. Use products that are all natural as much as possible.

2. Look for products that contain Dermal Surface Renewal Technology. DSR smoothes away existing signs of aging such as laugh lines, crows feet, and dullness.

3. Use products that have regenisomes. Regenisomes penetrate the skin to speed cell renewal after sun exposure. They also use the light of photosomes to undo sun damage, and have ultrasomes to renew skin while sleeping.

4. Find products with Proteo-C and Proflavonol-T. These two vitamins protect the skin from premature aging caused by the sun, pollution, and other environmental factors. They also provide advanced nutrition to the skin to keep it appearing smooth and firm.

5. If possible, use products that are paraben free. Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives that are widely used in personal care products such as shampoos, conditioners, hair styling products, make-up, facial masks, skin lotions and creams, and deodorants.
They also are typically ingredients in baby lotions, shampoos, and other personal care products for infants and children. In addition, they are in many foods and pharmaceutical products. Researchers are beginning to find these in benign and malignant human breast tumors. While some studies have challenged their toxicity in many products and question their long term affect on humans, using products that are paraben free can eliminate the risk of exposure to this harmful chemical.

6. Try to use your own homemade beauty recipes in between your regular regimen. You can use ingredients you currently have in your kitchen for great effective facial masks, shiny hair and healthy nails and cuticles and so much more. Many homemade remedies that work even better than most of the over priced products on the market today.

7. Drink plenty of water! Water hydrates skin and hair as well as flushes toxins out of the body.

8. Exercise every day. I highly recommend some form of cardiovascular exercise at least 3 times per week, in addition to Yoga and Pilates on the days in between. This will increase circulation throughout your body. You will be very happy on how your skin responds to this change. If you have varicose veins you will even notice that they are less visible because these changes. If you are just starting out, walking and/or riding a bike is excellent exercise.

9. Limit stress or learn to manage it effectively. Stress is harmful both emotionally and physically. Yoga is a great way to ease stress. Find that stress reliever activity that works best and use it on a daily basis!

10. Finally, Stay Active! Walk your dog daily and/or play with your kids. Eat lots of fruit (red and blue in color) and vegetables (green and orange in color). Try to get all your vitamins from the food that you eat, in addition to your daily vitamin regimen.

Follow the above 10 tips to Achieve Beautiful Skin and True Health.

The quest of eternal youth is never ending and as we age, there is a thirst to look younger. This is a general scenario of the present society, where ageing is seen as a threat and we all tend to join the bandwagon.
This brings us to have awareness of products that are meant to slow down ageing. Not all, but a few of these products and supplements are really effective against ageing and can slow it down or at least make you look young and stay healthy.

For the purpose of staying healthy and look young we need to supplement our body with the nutrients and antioxidants that help to slow down the ageing process. As we age, our body produces less of what it needs to be young and healthy, and therefore we see it ageing. Supplementing it with vitamins and antioxidants can help bring the hormones and other vital elements that the body cease producing with age.

Antioxidants play a key role in the antiaging process. Antioxidants attack the free radicals, which in turn attack the body to create a stable bond and in the process end up robbing us of our healthy cells that can age us prematurely. Antioxidants combat these free radicals and transfer them into waste. Thus antioxidants help us to remain healthy by eliminating unhealthy cells from the body.

One can have a daily intake of antiaging antioxidants from several healthy foods such as vegetables and fruits, white lean meat such as chicken, turkey or fish. In case you don’t get the necessary antioxidants from such diet, you can very well consult your dietician for added antioxidants supplements.

Apart from regular intake of antioxidants, there several other antiaging supplements that can be purchased for those of us who wish to delay the aging process. While considering the antiaging antioxidants, it is always better to stick to the natural resources than to switch over to other supplements. Out of the several benefits that the natural antioxidants offer to body include minimal or absolutely no side effects, easy to acquire and use.

These supplements include natural elements that are rich in antioxidants and other nutrients. We have short listed some of the supplements below:

Vitamin C: serves well as an anti-aging supplement, Vitamin C has confirmed potential results in keeping away free radicals. Vitamin C is abundant and can be obtained from fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin E: is also an effective antioxidant, which is easily available. Including vitamin E in your diet helps to protect certain cell membranes within the body that are attacked by free radicals. A good amount of vitamin E can also be found in anti-aging supplements that protect the skin from the aging process. A vital part of creams and lotions, vitamin E helps to provide a younger looking skin.

Green Tea: is another promising antioxidant that has produced encouraging results as an anti-aging supplement. Like the aforesaid, it also has the capabilities to fight free radicals and provide the necessary supplements to the body. Apart from that, green tea has also revealed its capability to protect cells from cancer, and also protects the heart and the possible resistance to other illnesses that could weaken the body.

By Denise Villani

Vitamin B-12 is one of the B-Complex vitamins and is also known as Cobalamin. It is important for the normal functioning of the brain, nervous system and for the formation of red blood cells. Vitamin B-12 helps keep the red blood cells healthy which helps prevent heart disease and helps keep the immune system functioning at its maximum level. It is involved in the metabolism of every cell of the body, especially affecting the DNA synthesis and regulation.

Vitamin B-12 is also essential in fatty acid synthesis and energy production or the process that converts the carbohydrates, fats and proteins from food into energy. This vitamin is also important in maintaining the nervous system. All nerves are surrounded by a fatty protective covering made up of a complex protein called myelin.

If a deficiency occurs, DNA production is disrupted and abnormal cells are produced. This results in anaemia. Symptoms of anaemia include excessive tiredness, breathlessness, listlessness, pallor, and poor resistance to infection. Other symptoms might include a smooth, sore tongue and menstrual disorders. Prolonged deficiency can lead to nerve degeneration and irreversible neurological damage.

When a deficiency occurs, it’s most commonly linked to a failure to effectively absorb the vitamin from the intestine rather than a dietary deficiency. Vitamin B-12 is bound to the protein in food. Hydrochloric acid in the stomach releases Vitamin B-12 from proteins in foods during digestion.

Absorption of Vitamin B-12 requires the secretion from the cells lining the stomach of a glycoprotein, known as intrinsic factor. The intrinsic factor complex is then absorbed in the small intestine in the presence of calcium. Certain people are unable to produce intrinsic factor and the subsequent anaemia is treated with injections of Vitamin B-12.

The old Recommended Daily Amounts (RDA’s) have been replaced by the term Reference Nutrient intake (RNI). The RNI is the amount of nutrient which is enough for at least 97% of the population.

Reference Nutrient Intakes for Vitamin B-12, micrograms/day by age.

- 0 to 6 months 0.3 micrograms
- 7 to 12 months 0.4 micrograms
- 1 to 3 yrs 0.5 micrograms
- 4 to 6 yrs 0.8 micrograms
- 7 to 10 yrs 1.0 micrograms
- 11 to 14 yrs 1.2 micrograms
- 15 + yrs 1.5 micrograms
- Breast feeding women 2.0 micrograms

The vitamin has very low toxicity and exceeding the RNI is not considered to be dangerous.

The only verified unfortified sources of Vitamin B-12 are meat, dairy products and eggs. There has been plenty of research into possible plant food sources like soya products, seaweeds and algae, but analysis found no significant Vitamin B-12.

Strict vegetarians or vegans are likely to require supplements if they do not eat any animal products. Some sources of Vitamin B-12 for vegetarians are dairy products, free-range eggs, milk, vegetarian cheddar cheese, hard boiled eggs. Many vegan foods are actually supplemented with Vitamin B-12. These include yeast extracts, Vecon vegetable stock, veggieburger mixes, textured vegetable protein, soya milks, vegetable and sunflower margarines, and breakfast cereals.
